Delivered 12 machines to the Mardi Gras Indians, continuing our collaboration with the Guardian’s Institute, led by Herreast Harrison and her daughter, Big Queen Cherice Harrison-Nelson. In this collaboration the Sewing Machine Project has distributed over 150 machines to members of many Indian groups in New Orleans.
This distribution was the last in this collaboration. The Guardian’s Institute is working on new projects and initiatives. But there is still a need.
As with any ending there is always a beginning. This marks the beginning of a new collaboration with the Mardi Gras Indians in which we’ll be working with Big Chief Howard Miller. I am excited and honored to begin!
