Last week was the big week!
The Sewing Machine Project moved across town! We’d been occupying the Sunday School wing of a local church for over 10 years and managed to accumulate all kinds of stuff! Sewing machines, of course, but so much more. We even had a “museum shelf” where we kept beautiful little treasures we simply couldn’t part with.
Though our move was a challenge–lots to sort through, and lots to weed out, as we prepared to move into a considerably smaller space–we met this challenge with excitement as we dared to dream about our big next step.
The SMP now resides alongside Madison’s Textile Arts Center–a creative hub for the fiber arts community, and a nonprofit with which we share so many intersections. TAC collects donated fabric, fiber arts and crafting supplies is a wonderful resource for supplies and education in Madison and our surrounding area. We are super excited about the possibilities for collaboration and the growth our new cohabitation offers.
The move itself took 2 days but the preparation offered by our dedicated volunteers made it possible–and that took a few months of sorting and thinking about how to reorganize the flow of our work. What a team! And, when it came to moving, we had another influx of incredible volunteers. The parents from the nursery school that will now inhabit our former space, stepped forward and schlepped sewing machines across town!! What a gift. And my head spun to see how quickly it went.
So here we are in our new space–more details to come about adaptation. But, in the meantime, we are celebrating change. Celebrating the kindness of those who help out. Celebrating what’s to come.
If you’d like to make a targeted donation to help with moving costs and/or our dramatically increased rent ;), please do so here.
With love and gratitude,
Margaret
