I am glad to know there is a group like this.
Is there such a branch in Canada?
Hi there, we are based in Madison, WI. We do not have branches at this time although we do take applications and ship machines all over the US. We do partner with international groups when they have the shipping channels and funding for shipping in place. Thank you!
Thank you for starting and maintaining this project! It is an inspiration and I am happy to contribute.
Thanks, Linda! for your kind words and for contributing to the work we do!❤️
Good afternoon,
I am a member of the board of Congo Restoration where we started a sewing school in 2010. Our founder is Gorethy Nabushosi. These women were brutalized during war. This has been life changing for the women. We graduate 40 women every 6 months. We provide a machine to 2 women to go into business together, and each woman gets a sewing kit.
Would the Sewing Machine Project donate machines to the Congo Restoration Sewing School? We have shipped machines that we get donated but we cannot always count on getting a shipping container.
We would love to have a conversation since our program is tied to entrepreneurship. There are no places to go buy clothing so it all must be made. Our students now make uniforms for the girls in our primary school (now 1st through 4th grade).
Many thanks!
Tracy Wallace
Greetings, Tracy,
Thank you for your message and for the good work you’re doing. We aren’t currently initiating any international shipments of sewing machines. But please email me at info@thesewingmachineproject.org so I can gather a little more info. Many thanks.
I am in Australia with a sewing machine that is US current…120 v0lt. Is there a way to get it to a 120 volt country? Love to donate it.
Hi Sandra, Thank you for reaching out. I don’t have a solid answer for you right now. You may want to see if you can find a transformer and donate the machine locally in your area-perhaps to a shelter? Thank you!
Are there any plans in the (near) future branch out to the Colorado area mainly the Denver metro area?
Hi Louise, We haven’t gotten to the “branches” stage yet! But if you know of a group in need you might want to help them get a program started and then reach out to us for machines! Or start a mending program in your area…we can certainly help with some “best practices”! We’ve learned a lot!
I have a Singer 201 Heavy Duty electric sewing machine in excellent condition that I would gladly ship anywhere. Any suggestions?
Hi Bonita,
Thank you so much for reaching out. Please ship it to our home base in Madison, WI and we’ll include it with a group of machines we are sending. There is info on our website about where and how to ship machines. Thanks so much!
