We are receiving many emails asking how and when The Sewing Machine Project will be involved in helping Haiti. The Sewing Machine Project will be there. We are already beginning to make plans to ship machines and supplies and offer help when their communities begin to mend.

I have a small sewing machine and a surger that I would like to donate. Is there somewhere in the central Ohio area that I can take them to so they get to the right people?
Hi Violet,
There is a collection site in Celina, Ohio…perhaps that would work for you?
Thank you for your kindness!

I have at least 3 machines but they are in cabinets. Can you use them? If so, where can I donate them?
Hi Dixie,
I’m sorry we are unable to accept machines in cabinets. Thank you for thinking of The Sewing Machine Project and for your kindness!

I have two working sewing machines with all attachments. They are in cabinets,a New Home and a Montgomery Ward. Can you tell me who would want them since you don’t take cabinets for Haiti?
Hi Cliff,
I would suggest contacting area churches or shelters, where they could have the machines in one place and not have to worry about moving them. Churches often have quilting circles and shelters often have a need for machines so visitors can mend their clothing if needed.
Thank you for contacting me!
Margaret
If a machine is removed from the cabinet and set up with appropriate power cord and foot control, can you accept it then? I am assuming that the the cabinets take up valuable shipping space.
Hi Dennis, Thanks so much for your note. We accept machines that have been pulled out of cabinets only if they are donated in a compatible portable machine case (one outfitted for these machines) and, of course, if they comply with our donation guidelines. See our Donate Machines page for more info. Thanks so much for your kindness.
