The Pay it Forward program is a relatively new facet of the Project. It is our belief that a great way to say “thank you” for a machine is to give a few volunteer hours rebuilding one’s own community. We are in the process of creating a selection of sewing-related volunteer opportunities for recipients to choose from. In this way, a person can take an active role in the revitalization of their area.
Every individual is important and taking an active community role not only helps the community but also the individual.
Current Pay it Forward opportunities:
- Martin Luther King Community Center, Kenner, LA: We’ve donated 8 sewing machines to the Center for their work skills program. Currently the Center is in need of sewing mentors to help teach sewing.
- The Ladybugs sewing guild, St. Bernard’s Parish: The Ladybugs are a group of women associated with the Shriner’s organization. They sew a variety of garments, blankets, etc. for the Children’s Hospital. Someone volunteering with this group would be asked occasionally to sew something for the Hospital.
